I have been a speech-language pathologist in public schools since 2016. In late 2022, I became an Early Steps provider and have been providing speech & language therapy services through Sunny Speech in addition to working in a PreK - 5th grade elementary school.
Before earning a Master of Science Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from the State University of New York at Fredonia, I received a Bachelor and Master of Music degree in vocal performance from Bowling Green State University. During the years following my M.M., I maintained an extensive private voice studio and performed locally with Opera on Tap, a non-profit organization, sang at the Art Fair Song Fest held annually at Kerrytown Concert House in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and presented various benefit and community outreach recitals.
I entered the field of speech-language pathology to follow my passion for the voice, and languages. During my graduate studies, I worked as a research assistant for various projects funded by a National Institutes of Health research grant, and managed a lab devoted to the study of child language development and evidence-based practices. I was fortunate to have intensive and varied clinical experiences in a University clinic, outpatient rehabilitation clinic, subacute care at a rehabilitation hospital, and student teaching at a public school that included extensive experience with children who had more severe impairments, many of whom relied on AAC(AT) to communicate. I now hold state certification and licensing from the Florida Department of Education and Department of Health, and national certification of clinical competence through ASHA (American Speech-Language-Hearing Association).
I am the Leon Classroom Teachers Association (LCTA) Site Representative at Hartsfield in addition to being on the LCTA Bargaining Team, and, as of May 2022, I am the District 3 Director for LCTA as well. Advocating for teachers and students through Union work has been an unexpected development in my life, but I hope I can help make a positive impact on the working and learning conditions in our community.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, taking pictures, making mixed media collages, studying and poorly speaking Italian, singing, exploring new places, and supporting classical music.
